What Is a Registered Apprenticeship?

A Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP) is a formal training program approved by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) or a State Apprenticeship Agency. These programs combine hands-on learning with classroom instruction to prepare people for successful careers.

Why Become an Apprentice?
-
Earn While You Learn: Apprentices are paid employees and often receive wage increases as they advance.
-
Recognized Credential: Graduates earn a nationally recognized certification that proves their skills.
-
Industry Standards: Programs follow strict quality guidelines set by industry and government.
-
Wide Career Options: Opportunities are available in fields like healthcare, construction, information technology, and manufacturing.
-
Structured Training: Learn on the job from experienced mentors, supported by classroom or technical instruction.

Registered apprenticeships provide a clear pathway to build valuable skills, earn a living, and grow in your career.

Why Is an Apprenticeship Program Sponsor Important for Employers?
The MWI Workforce Institute is an apprenticeship program sponsor. As a sponsor, we partner with employers to create and manage their apprenticeship program.
We are responsible for:

-
Designing and running the program
-
Employing and supporting the apprentices
-
Overseeing training and development
-
Providing both hands-on experience and classroom instruction
We ensure apprenticeships meet quality standards and deliver real benefits to both employers and participants. Employers can take comfort in knowing they're not alone in their apprenticeship programs—we’re here to shoulder the responsibility alongside you!
